Is your mind constantly thinking about food? That’s food noise.

Updated: 3 days ago
Food noise is the persistent, often intrusive mental chatter about food that can take up far more space in your mind than you realise.
It goes beyond normal hunger or simple meal planning. It’s the ongoing internal dialogue about what you’ve eaten, what you should eat, what you’re “allowed” to eat, and what might come next. Over time, this can create distraction, emotional tension, and even distress around food.
Food noise can be subtle for some and loud and overwhelming for others.
You might recognise it as:
Constantly thinking about what you’ll eat next
Feeling guilt or shame after eating
Mentally negotiating food choices (“If I skip lunch, I can have dessert”)
Replaying what you ate earlier in the day
Craving snacks even when you’re not physically hungry
Feeling out of control around certain foods
Feeling triggered by food content on social media
Food noise is rarely about food alone. It’s usually a sign of imbalance in the body or environment.
Some common contributors include:
Blood sugar instability
Emotional eating patterns
Restrictive dieting or “all-or-nothing” rules
Lack of consistent meal structure
Constant exposure to food and body-related content online
The goal is food peace.
Food peace is where food no longer dominates your mental space. It becomes what it’s meant to be: part of life, not the main conversation running in the background. You eat when you’re hungry, you plan when it’s helpful, and you move on with your day.
One of the most transformative breakthroughs my Metabolic Balance clients experience when healing their relationship with food is the quieting of food noise. When your nutrition is personalised to your own blood values, you stop guessing what your body needs.
Instead of overthinking every choice, you have clarity. Structure replaces confusion. Trust begins to rebuild between you and your body.
