Inflammation is your body’s immune system responding to an injury, or an irritant, such as a virus, bacteria, or toxic substance, in an effort to heal itself. When your immune system is activated, it will send out inflammatory cells to combat the irritant or to heal damaged tissue.
The right kind of inflammation is an essential part of the body’s healing process.
But inflammation also affects body systems we can’t see.
