Spring Cleaning Your Home Naturally

Spring Cleaning Your Home Naturally It’s that wonderful time of year when we want to throw open our windows to allow the fresh spring air in and get busy doing our spring cleaning. But have you ever taken a moment to think about the toxins that are in many home cleaning products? If you mop your floors with a highly toxic mixture, then you or your children walk around barefoot, those toxins are being absorbed into your bodies. Some products can be dangerously toxic. It would be impossible to avoid all toxins in the world, however with a few ingredients, you can make your own home cleaning products. Cleaning and Disinfecting With Young Living's Lemon Essential Oil One of my favorite essential oils to use for cleaning is Young Living's Lemon Essential Oil. Not only does it have a fresh, clean scent, but it is also antiseptic, antifungal, and antiviral. Lemon is an air disinfectant and is invigorating and energizing. Young Living’s Lemon Essential Oil is a great choice for the reasons mentioned above, but it is also an inexpensive oil. A couple of years ago there was a black out in Calgary that lasted several days. When I cleaned out my refrigerator and freezer, they smelled horrible, having had rotting food in them for almost two days. I had been out of town when the outage began. There was no running water, so I didn't have many options for cleaning. I put one drop of lemon oil on each shelf and in each drawer, and was thrilled when I returned home 4 days later to discover both my refrigerator and freezer smelled lemon fresh. You would never have known that it smelled so bad the day I was cleaning everything out, I didn't breathe through my nose the entire time I was in my apartment! Here are just a few of the ways you can use lemon essential oil in your cleaning routine: Laundry: 25 drops of lemon oil to a load. This also eliminates unpleasant odors from rugs and clothes. Dishwasher: Add a few drops per load Clean & Sanitize Cutting Boards: Use on wood cutting boards to kill any bacteria. Stains: Works well in removing gum, grease, and oil. Air Freshener: Add 6 - 10 drops of lemon essential oil to your Young Living diffuser. Cleaning and Disinfecting Your Kitchen and Bathroom with Young Living's Purification Essential Oil Young Living’s Purification Essential Oil is another one of my favourite oils for cleaning. It’s a blend of oils including Melaleuca (tea tree), making it antibacterial, antiviral and antifungal, which is perfect for cleaning. Purification is terrific for neutralizing odours, not masking them, but actually eliminating them. I make my own spray with Purification and water and use it for cleaning my kitchen and bathroom counters, as well as my toilet. Purification is also another very reasonably priced essential oil. To eliminate odours in the air, diffuse Purification in your Young Living diffuser. Purification Cleaning Spray: In a 4 oz spray bottle, add 3 oz of water and 20 drops of Purification Essential Oil. Shake the bottle each time before using. The above recipes and suggestions should be enough to get you started on the path to spring cleaning naturally!
